We spoke with Georgey Saji, who has recently completed his Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship at NHS Great Western Hospital (GWH), about his work in the NHS and how he feels apprenticeship training can help develop future talent for the NHS workforce.
Georgey works on the Elective Admissions team and says,
“I am so proud to work for the NHS. The past year and a half really opened my eyes, seeing the amazing work that my frontline colleagues have been doing, both with the pandemic and now as they try to reduce all the waiting lists for treatments and operations.
When I started the apprenticeship in my new role, the pandemic hit, and my job role changed to deal with outpatients. It was an intense time and I had to adapt quickly, which expanded my knowledge a lot in a short space of time. There were short notice changes and very tough days, but the atmosphere was very supportive, and the more experienced colleagues helped me learn a lot. My Trainer Coach was always there for me too, she was supportive and helpful and took the time to pop in and see me when she was at the hospital seeing other apprentices, as well as for my normal sessions with her.
I am so pleased to have successfully completed the Business Administrator apprenticeship; my goal now is to become an Operations Manager still within the NHS, with everything that I have learned and the knowledge that I am continuing to acquire. For me, an apprenticeship really gives you skills that will set you up for life; it has given me the opportunity to begin a career within the NHS that I can be passionate about.”
